Statewide Agencies

Community Action Agencies (CAAs) are nonprofit private and public organizations established under the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 to fight America's War on Poverty. Today, they are funded through the federal Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) as well as many other public and private funds.

Community Action Agencies help people to help themselves in achieving self-sufficiency. Today there are approximately 1000 Community Action Agencies, serving those in poverty in every state, as well as Puerto Rico and the Trust Territories. The majority of CAA program participants are extremely poor, with incomes 75 percent of the federal poverty threshold, or $13,733 for a family of three (the average family size for the client population).

Here in Utah, we have nine Community Action Agencies and one statewide partner. Through them, we can create a place that provides families with the support and resources they need to obtain self-sufficiency. Our goal is to help people change their lives. We do this through direct services, advocacy and education.

American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA)

The Community Action Agencies in Utah received approximately $5 million in the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), or "the Stimulus Package", to create jobs and fight the effects of poverty in local communities. These funds will allow Utah's CAAs to build new innovative programs that will create jobs, strengthen communities and stabilize families.

Partners

Community Action Partnership of Utah works with many community action, national and local partners to address the causes of poverty and help low-income Utahns achieve self-sufficiency.
